School Safety Programs

"Neon Leon" and "Lightning Liz"

Each year Chippewa Valley Electric schedules classroom programs in February and March. Two linemen present the "hot line" program to schoolchildren in kindergarten through the third grade. The safety programs are offered free of charge to any elementary school (public or parochial) in the CVEC service area. The program consists of a scale model farm and home setting, complete with house, barn, silo, TV antenna, ladder and miniature utility lines and poles. The main characters are people-shaped, glass neon figurines. The demonstration is energized to 7,200 volts of electricity. "Neon Leon" and "Lightning Liz" light up when they come in contact with power lines. Leon and Liz show what can happen to children when:

After the demonstration, each student is given a book of activities and coloring projects depicting electrical hazards. Each teacher is given a guidebook to help reinforce the information. If your school would like to schedule a demonstration, please contact our office during regular business hours. (M-F 7:30 am - 4:00 pm) 715.239.6800 / 800.300.6800
