Energy Conservation Tips
- Install energy efficient lighting
- Shut off lights as soon as you leave a room
- Put flow restrictors on shower heads
- Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes
- Hang laundry outdoors whenever possible, rather than use dryer
- Clean lint filter after every load
- Use warm or cold water for laundry
- Set water heater temperature at no more than 120 degrees
- Make sure your attic has an insulation value of at least R-50, walls at least R-25
- Check caulking around windows and doors regularly
- Set your thermostat at 66-68 during heating season and lower when you're gone
- Set your thermostat at 76-78 for cooing and use fans to increase circulation
- Don't heat or cool rooms that are not used
- Clear or replace filters regularly
- Keep your fireplace damper closed unless you have a fire going
- Keep curtains and shades closed to hot summer sun and open when you want to capture the warmth of the sun during winter
- Don't leave appliances running when they're not in use
- Carefully check the energy rating before you purchase any appliance; get the most energy efficient. It will save you money in the long run.
