CFL Bulb Rebate Program Continued
Chippewa Valley is now providing a rebate in the form of a bill credit on compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Chippewa Valley will issue a $2.00 credit on up to five (5) compact fluorescent bulbs when they are purchased and installed.
CFL's are small fluorescent bulbs that replace incandescent bulbs. CFL's typically use 75% less electricity and will last up to ten times longer than the standard bulb. CFL's tend to cost more than a standard incandescent but the energy savings and bulb life add up to substantial savings over the life of the bulb. The following website has loads of information on CFL's and their benefits to the environment EnergyStar.

Requirements for participating in the program are:
Must be an active account
Bulbs purchased during 2008
Copy of dated receipt required
Credit of $2.00 per bulb up to five bulbs

Holiday LED Lighting Rebate - Successful
During the final months of 2007 Chippewa Valley Electric offerred a $3.00 rebate per string of LED lights purchased. 125 Members, purchasing 682 strings of the energy efficient LED lights, took advantage of the program. We would like to have seen more participation, but since the program was intiated so late in the year, we still felt it was successful.

LED stands for "Light Emitting Diode". LED lights have a number of advantages over conventional lighting
Energy-efficient - .08 watts per LED C7 multicolor bulb (compared to .48 watts for an incandescent mini-light and 6.0 watts for a standard incandescent C7 bulb
Long Life span - up to 100,000 hours or more used indoors, half that outdoors and some manufacturers provide a limited lifetime warranty.
Safety - no chance of combustion since the bulbs are cool to the touch regards of how long they are on.
Sturdy bulbs - the epoxy lenses are virtually indestructible.

Chippewa Valley Electric and our power supplier, Dairyland Power Cooperative, joined to offer this rebate in hopes of reducing the additional electrical load created by holiday lighting. In the past Dairyland Power Cooperative has estimated the holiday light load to be approximately 60 Megawatts, or 60,000 kwh each hour that all the holiday lights are on during the holiday season. The LED lights use approximately 85% less electricity so if all holiday lights were converted to LED's Dairyland's seasonal lighting load could be reduced by 51 Megawatts.
